NBA Legend Jerry West Dies at 86

8-Time NBA All-Star, Hall of Famer

Worked as a consultant for the LA Clippers since 2017

Jerry West, one of the most legendary players in NBA history and a key figure in the Los Angeles Lakers' success, has died. He was 86.

West's death was announced Wednesday morning by the LA Clippers, where he had worked as a consultant since 2017. No cause of death was given.

West, known as "Mr. Clutch" for his ability to make big shots in critical moments, played for the Lakers from 1960 to 1974. He was an eight-time NBA All-Star and was named to the NBA's 50 Greatest Players list in 1996.

After retiring as a player, West became a successful coach and executive. He was the Lakers' general manager from 1972 to 1982, during which time the team won six NBA championships.

West was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980.
